Cool Wool Mélange Dark gray mottled 0412

Lana Grossa knitting yarn – Cool Wool Mélange Dark gray mottled 0412 knitting yarn

Cool Wool Mélange Dark gray mottled 0412 is a refined, versatile knitting yarn for makers who enjoy soft wool, clear stitches, and comfortable everyday projects. Made from 100% merino extrafine wool, this Lana Grossa yarn feels pleasant in the hands while knitting and creates fabric that is gentle and cosy to wear. The dark grey mottled colour gives your work subtle depth, making it an easy choice for classic garments and accessories that suit many wardrobes.

Each 50 gram ball contains 160 metres of yarn, offering a generous length for lightweight yet warm knitted pieces. It is designed for needle sizes 3 to 3.5 mm, making it a lovely option for both confident knitters and beginners who want to practise even stitches. For a size 38–40 sweater, approximately eight balls are needed, helping you plan your project and budget clearly.

Features and benefits

This Lana Grossa knitting yarn has a smooth, even appearance that helps your stitches stand out. Simple stockinette stitch looks neat, while ribbing, cables, lace details, and textured patterns can be shown beautifully. The merino extrafine fibre gives finished knitting a soft feel and a flexible drape, so garments can sit comfortably rather than feeling stiff.

The recommended tension is 24 stitches and 34 rows over 10 x 10 cm. This makes Cool Wool Mélange Dark gray mottled 0412 knitting yarn especially suitable for patterns that need a finer, more defined fabric. Its balanced weight and good stitch visibility also make it easier to notice where you are in your work.

Tips for knitting and care

Before beginning a larger project, knit a small tension swatch using the needles you plan to use. This is the easiest way to check whether your stitches match the pattern measurements. Dark gray mottled 0412 works well on its own for a calm, elegant look, or it can be combined with other shades for stripes, colour blocks, or contrasting borders. When mixing yarns, make sure their recommended tension and feel are similar.

For care, always follow the instructions on the yarn label and the guidance in your chosen pattern. Gentle handling and suitable washing methods help merino wool keep its soft appearance. If you are making a gift or a frequently worn item, it is useful to keep the yarn label so care information stays close at hand.
